Video transcoding fails from time to time. The reason for it is, that we don’t support all video codecs. Video codecs are not the same as video format (eg. MP4, MOV), as a single video file might contain different codecs for audio and web.
Transcoding failed with error message
Transcoding failed but UI still shows 98% for a long time
Transcoding is needed such that the video can be watched without prior downloading it entirely.
The supported video codecs are H.264, VP9, VP8, MPEG-2 as listed on this page.
Disclaimer: There can be other reasons for failure but the not supported codec is most likely. Yet, we don't have means to show the user what exactly the problem is.
Workaround
If a video transcoding fails and the missing codec support is the root cause, the video can be converted to a different codec on the device before uploading. The video shows how it can be done on macOS.
