Make or Receive a Call
- Open any chat (individual or group).
- Tap the phone or video camera icon in the top right corner.
- The call will ring all participants who are part of the conversation.
- During a call, control your mic and camera, or end the call when finished.
💡 You can see recent call history directly in your chat threads (not available in Early Access, coming in General Availability).
Important Considerations
- To ensure your calls connect properly, make sure all participants are using the latest version of the app, and have opened the app at least once to activate the calling service.
- This feature is designed for occasional use to support work-related day-to-day communication. Excessive use may lead to a restriction or limitation of access.
- Some features might not be accessible in all regions. The functionality of this feature is confirmed for use within the European Union, Switzerland, United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
FAQs
Why am I not receiving incoming call notifications? There can be two reasons:
- Focus Mode on iOS is suppressing alerts. To mitigate, allow calls from everyone in your focus settings (Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > Add Everyone), or whitelist the Beekeeper app for that focus mode (Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > Allowed Apps).
- You didn’t open the app after updating or installing. To mitigate, click on the app once so the calling provider automatically registers you.
I joined the call but no one can hear me. Make sure the Beekeeper app has been granted Microphone permissions (on iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera > Beekeeper), and that you are unmuted.
Why do calls drop when I switch to another app? Only the future version will support background calling and picture-in-picture (PIP), so please keep your app in the foreground during your call.
Why can’t I see or manage other participants in a group call? Participant management features are not yet available. Group calls are planned for future updates with full visibility and control.
What happens if I’m logged into two devices during a call? Simultaneous logins can cause inconsistent behavior (e.g., notification going to the wrong device). Improvements to multi-device handling are in progress.
[iOS] Why can’t I call someone I’ve never messaged before? Calls are only possible with contacts you’ve previously interacted with via messages. Create a new chat with that user, and then you can call them.
[Android] Can I receive a new call while I’m already in another call? No, incoming calls are not surfaced during an active call session. This will be improved in a future version.
