To collaborate better in chat conversations, you can mention a specific colleague or all colleagues in a group chat with an @ sign to highlight important information or share their profile details.
How to use Mentions in chats
-
Start typing your message as usual
-
When you want to mention someone, type in an “@” sign
-
Choose a name from the list that appears. The name will be inserted into your message in a distinct color
-
You can mention as many names as you want
-
The mentioned person(s) will receive a mobile push notification, only if he/she is a member of that group chat
Removing or changing a Mention
You can remove a Mention just like any other word in the chat input box. The whole name will be deleted at once. To replace or change a mentioned name, you need to remove it and add a new one from the list.
Mentioning all chat members
You can use an @All Mention to notify everyone in a group chat. Type the “@” sign and choose “All” from the list.
Note: In the list the @All will appear in your chosen language (@Alle, @Todos, etc.), but when used in the message, it will always show in English: @All.
Can I mention a person who is not a chat member?
Yes. You can mention any name available in the user directory. To do so, start typing the first letter(s) of the name you want to mention. This is because a person who is not part of the chat won’t appear in the member list. Further, only Chat members will receive a mobile push notification. A mentioned person who is not part of the Chat, will not receive any notifications. Therefore, please double check that the person you want to mention and notify is in the Chat.
Can I see in my chat inbox that I was mentioned?
Yes. If you were mentioned in a chat conversation, you will see an “@” sign in the chat inbox on the left side. It will be visible until the message is marked as read.
How can I use mentions in practice?
-
Highlight important information that should be received by a certain person(s) or a group to reply, act upon, or be informed.
-
Notify a large group of chat members quickly and without any risk of missing some names with @All mention
-
Share contact details of anyone in the organization (HR, new colleagues, etc.). A mentioned person that is not in the chat will not be notified about being mentioned.
