Deleting Chats
No chat is ever deleted. Chats stay in the inbox or archive indefinitely. The only way a chat can disappear for a user is if it’s a group chat and the user leaves it or is removed from it. Even then, the chat continues to exist for other members.
To organize your inbox and highlight important conversations, use the Archiving Chats function.
Deleting Chat Messages
Users can delete their own messages both in the web app and on mobile.
Additionally, organizations can allow Chat Admins to delete messages sent by other users in group chats.
This option is disabled by default and can only be activated by a Global Admin in the Dashboard:
Dashboard → Settings → Feature Flags → “Allow group chat admins to delete other users’ messages.”
👉 Even when this feature is disabled, Chat Admins will still see the “Delete message” option. If they try to use it, they will see the following message:
“Message deletion is currently disabled. This feature is controlled by your organization and can only be enabled by a Global Admin in the Dashboard.”
This is intentional - it improves visibility and discoverability of the feature, so Admins can act quickly in case of sensitive or urgent situations.
💡Note: This function for Chat Admins is currently available only on web.
After a message is deleted, it is removed from the chat, and all participants will see the system message:
“Message Deleted.”
Deleted messages can be manually recovered by Beekeeper within 30 days upon submission of a Customer Data Request (CDR) by a Global Admin. After that period, the message is permanently lost.
Deleting chat messages on the web:
- Hover the mouse to the left of the message you want to delete until the 3-dot menu appears.
- Click the 3-dot menu and select Delete.
Deleting chat messages on Android or iOS:
- Select the chat where you want to delete your message.
- Long press the message to view available options.
- Tap Delete.
