Beekeeper’s Open Shifts feature allows admins (global, group, location, org unit) to schedule in ‘unfilled shifts’. These shifts are then made automatically visible to all members of the schedule in a new area of the Shifts interface.
All members of the schedule can then view and optionally claim an open shift. Based on a first come, first serve logic, the team member who first claims a given shift is automatically assigned to the shift resulting in a change to the schedule which is reflected both on the team member’s schedule and in the schedule overview in the admin dashboard.
FAQ
How do you add open shifts to the schedule?
Admins can easily add Open Shifts to the schedule by downloading the template, adding in new rows called “Open Shift” and then scheduling for this row the shifts on the days you need. If you need multiple open shifts, you can add multiple rows called “Open Shift” so that you can have multiple open shifts on a given day.
Can Open Shifts be added from an integration?
Yes. When creating a new shift, omit user id and it will be automatically considered as an “Open Shift”.
Can you only have one employee pick up an open shift?
Yes, each open shift is meant to be filled by one employee. However, if you need multiple people to cover a shift on a given day, you can create multiple instances of the open shift (e.g. 3x Barista which would show the open Barista shift 3 times and can be claimed by 3 people)
Does the team manager need to approve the claimed Shift?
Manager approval is not required (and is not possible).
Are Open Shifts available to all?
Yes, Open Shifts are available to all Shifts users.
Confirmation for admins:
The Admin receives a push notification when someone claims an Open Shift.
When the notification is clicked, the admin opens the app with the claimed open shift details. This page does not persist and is available only through a notification.
