What is Home?
-
Quick access to relevant content and information
-
Faster navigation of the Beekeeper platform
-
Improved discoverability for operational processes.
-
Customization based on where you work, or what team you are in.
We plan on adding new widgets and we'd love to hear what widgets you think would be valuable. If you have any ideas, please get in touch with your CSM or email ideas@beekeeper.io.
Displaying Content on Home
Content can be displayed on Home via 'widgets'. Each widget is an independent piece of software, and together, they make up the Home screen. Because each one is independent, we can easily offer customization - for example, removing or adding widgets to your Home screen or making them visible for only certain groups and locations.
Beekeeper offers a number of Home widgets, that are available out-of-the-box and are included with your plan. These include:
-
Quick Actions: The quick actions widget gives users shortcuts to important actions, e.g. opening the user directory, getting to the notification settings & starting a new chat.
-
Streams: The streams widget will show all of the streams to which a user has access, making the full range of your content more discoverable at-a-glance
-
Shortcuts: The Shortcuts section will be populated by the first eight Shortcuts to which a user has access. These can be reordered by an admin, so you can choose what will display on Home. If the user has access to Document Library and Tasks, these will be displayed as the first 2 shortcuts. This means that only the first six shortcuts set by an admin will be shown in this section additionally for the user.
-
Document Library Widget: This widget will show the most recently created and updated documents the user has permission to. This widget will display on Home if you have the Document Library, or Documents Lite.
-
Tasks Widget: This widget will show a progress bar, motivating people to complete their daily tasks, with the next two upcoming tasks also visible on Home. This widget will display on Home if you have Tasks, or Tasks Lite.
-
Pinned Posts Widget: This widget will display all of the pinned posts from across any streams a user has access to. This should make it easier for Beekeeper users to get an easy, at-a-glance overview of what the most important content updates are in Beekeeper. The posts will be horizontally scrollable, with the most recent posts showing first. The widget aims to be more visual, so we will display media from the post, or if none exists, the stream cover image from where the post was published.
-
Shifts Widget: This widget will show users their upcoming shift, so they can easily see when they are next working directly from Home. This widget will only show to users who have upcoming shifts scheduled.
- Forms Widget: This widget makes it easier and faster to fill out recurring or regular short forms. The customer needs to tell us which forms they want to have pinned to Home (Form IDs). Only 1 form will show inline, but the customer can show up to 3 and they will simply show in a list. Customers must be aware that the Form will need to have fewer than 5 questions to be filled ‘inline’ on Home rather than opening the form off from Home.
Beekeeper also has been developing more custom Home widgets, that require some level of configuration and carry an additional cost of USD 50 / month (for the whole company). Most of these widgets (calendar widget, data widget, etc) require a beta agreement right now as they are in a beta phase; during this period, we would not be charging customers so that they can test it out. You can discuss these with your Account Manager or CSM if you are interested to learn more.
These widgets include:
-
Weather Widget: The weather widget will display the upcoming weather forecast on Home. This can be customized to location, so that you can give the relevant weather updates for your employees. In that sense, you could have multiple weather widgets set up so that there is 1 for each location, showing the correct weather.
-
Data Widgets: We have two data widgets - one is a table data widget and the other is a bar graph data widget. These will display relevant performance metrics, KPIs or information on Home. Right now, we offer an out-of-the-box integration to pull data from google sheets. However, this could be integrated, as well, with your data source. We are happy to discuss how your team can build this integration and leverage our UI, or we'd be happy to discuss options for us to build this or connect you with someone who can.
Home Branding
To offer a more branded experience on mobile, we will display your logo at the top of Home. You can control which logo shows from the admin dashboard, under 'Settings' > 'Styling'.
In order for your logo to display on Home, you will need to make sure that it is non-white, as it will otherwise be white on white with the navigation bar on iOS. We understand that might mean that you would need to change your styling on the web app for this to work. If you don't want to update your web styling, you can either leave it as is and Home will show with just a white navigation bar or you can reach out to your CSM to remove the Home branding and it will bring back the text on Home that displays your app name.
If your logo is not white and you are still not seeing it on Home, it might be the case that the file type is SVG which is currently not fully supported across platforms. To triage this, we'd suggest uploading a different version (ideally .png, .jpg) of your logo to the dashboard.
Scaling
Beekeeper will scale down the logo to fit in the navigation bar (as per image below), with a max height of 44 pixels and a max width of 182 pixels. Beekeeper will not crop your logo, but we will scale it down so that it fits appropriately on Home. Keep in mind that if you have a very wide or very tall logo, this may lead to it appearing smaller as it would more quickly reach one of the limits (height or width).
Best practices
-
Ensure your home screen looks great by adding icons to your Shortcuts. We recommend choosing icons from our Beekeeper extensions icon set.
-
Update shortcuts titles to be used case focused. For example, instead of ‘Amadeus’, the shortcut could clarify the action or value to the user e.g. “File a ticket in HotSOS”
-
Make sure streams have cover images.
FAQs
How do the shortcuts look when they don’t have an icon?
The shortcuts will show the default icon, if you do not upload a custom extension icon in the dashboard:
What happens if there are only a few shortcuts?
If there are no shortcuts set up, Shortcuts will be populated with a set of default shortcuts. These include Your Profile, Settings, User Directory and Help & Support. As you add shortcuts, they will start to bump out the default shortcuts.
What app versions will show Home?
The minimum supported version for the home screen is iOS 14 and Android 8. We introduced this ‘minimum’ to ensure that the users will have a positive experience with Home, as older versions of the apps don’t have newer bug fixes and improvements.
